2011 sees the launch of some exciting projects for MV
Building on successes like providing young volunteers for the Ryder Cup in 2010 and seeing our 15,000th volunteer sign up, MV is planning to go from strength to strength in 2011.
GwirVol Merger
From 1st April 2011, we are part of the GwirVol initiative. You may notice this as you are now on the GwirVol website! Why not look around while you are here and see the work that GwirVol is doing in expanding volunteering opportunities across Wales?
MV50
MV50 is a brand new initiative designed to take MV to new areas and to cover even more volunteers. We started with a question – where are there young people volunteering in Wales who may not be being recognised for it and may not even know that what they are doing is ‘volunteering’?
We came up with six answers – in sport, employee volunteering, in schools, overseas volunteering and 14 to 16 year olds. We also decided to look at accreditation for volunteering as well as the recognition given by MV.
At the Urdd Eisteddfod in June 2011 – during Volunteers Week – we launched ‘MV Sport’, the first of these new MV50 Awards. Click here to find out more.
This does not replace the ‘classic’ MV Award and it is hoped that those completing a 50 hour Award such as MV Sport will then go on to complete another 150 hours – either in sport or in other opportunities.
As for the rest, we will be working on them throughout 2011 and 2012 and launching them as they are ready. We are looking for pilot projects in several of these areas and with the expansion of MV … there has never been a better time to volunteer!
