Millennium Volunteers
Millennium Volunteers: Overview
Welcome to the webpages dedicated to the Millennium Volunteers (MV) programme, from 1st April 2011 a part of the GwirVol initiative!
MV has been running since 1998 and in that time over 14,500 young people aged 16 to 25 in Wales have been involved. The aim of the programme is very simple – to recognise the contribution that young volunteers make to organisations across Wales. This is done through the use of 50, 100 and 200 hour certificates, the last of these signed by the First Minister of Wales.
It looks good on your CV, it is fun to get involved and it only asks that you give your time – there are no exams and you can use an interest or a hobby you have already as a starting point.
If you are 16 to 25 and you would like to know more about this then visit our page with information on MV for young people here.
If you are an organisation that is interested in running the MV programme or you would like to know more about it then please click here.
Find out more about what is going on in volunteering by visiting our news page here.
We have plenty of ideas about how to develop and expand the MV programme in the coming years – find out more about them here.
MV is part of a UK-wide initiative and runs in Northern Ireland and Scotland as well as under the name ‘V’ in England. In all parts of the UK, there is an agreement to the 9 Key Principles of MV, namely that volunteering opportunities for young people should show the following:–
- Personal commitment
- Community benefit
- Voluntary participation
- Ownership by young people
- Quality
- Recognition
- Inclusiveness
- Variety
- Partnership
