Community Safety Volunteers of the Year
A youth group from Merthyr Tydfil has been named as the Community Safety Volunteers of the Year by South Wales Police Authority.
The 3G’s Forsythia Youth GwirVol volunteers are a group of young people from the Gurnos area of Merthyr Tydfil who participate in various volunteering activities, including organising trips, helping at residential homes and helping to drive forward a community gym.
They won the award for their dedication to improving the local area and their commitment to helping people in their community.
Group member Daniel Walsh, 18, said: “This is an outstanding achievement and will make a big difference to what we do. It is an amazing feeling to be recognised for our work.”

Fellow member, Chelsea Barlow, 18, said: “We are so pleased to have won this award. Hopefully, once others know about this achievement, they will come and join us, and help the group grow.”
Christopher Evans, 25, also part of the group, said: “We want to thank everyone who volunteers as part of the group. The work we do is a real team effort. We would also like to thank Geraldine Maddison who nominated us. She always supports our work, and she never gets the recognition she deserves.”
Local Police Authority Member, Councillor Jeff Edwards, said: “The work that this group do is fantastic. It has a positive impact on the lives of many people. Their ‘can-do’ attitude is passed on to many others in their community. They are a credit to all young people across the Merthyr area and are excellent ambassadors and role models to others. Their outstanding work deserves to be recognised, and I am thrilled they have won the award.”
