About GwirVol StreetGames:
Launched in 2007, StreetGames is a UK charity dedicated to increasing sporting opportunities in deprived areas and is a national centre of expertise for developing sport in disadvantaged communities. The charity helps to make sport accessible to all young people, regardless of their income or social circumstances, by supporting and establishing local projects around the UK that deliver doorstep sport, i.e. positive activities & sport provided to young people when they want it, where they want it and how they want it.
The Co-operative Young Volunteer programme is designed to recruit, engage and deploy young volunteers using a tried and tested volunteer pathway, with associated resources, guidance and support.
StreetGames and GwirVol have teamed up with the support of The Co-operative to develop a grant programme to help develop sports volunteering opportunities for young people aged 14-25 in Wales. Grants of up to £2,000 are available to projects in Wales wishing to develop the Co-operative young volunteer programme for young people aged 14-25 in Wales. Projects must benefit disadvantaged areas.
Examples of projects we might support:
StreetGames projects could be: Involving young people as coaches, referees or in organising sports activities. The sports could be anything from welly boot throwing to rugby.
What we don’t fund:
• Volunteering activities for those outside the age range of 14-25.
• Young people who are carrying out the activities as a part of their Welsh Baccalaureate qualification or any other compulsory community work required for education such as work experience for degree courses or diplomas.
Priority young people:
GwirVol aims to encourage young people who are less likely to volunteer. As a result The GwirVol grants also aim to prioritise delivery of opportunities with and for a diverse range of young people (aged 14 – 25) and particularly welcomes applications from organisations that will work with:
